Sierra Soul was first created in 2016, but Granlibakken has been hosting wellness events since 2011. When Granlibakken took over Women's Wellness Weekend in 2011, we didn't realize how far this journey would take us. A few years later, we have hosted many incredible, meaningful events, met some amazing people, and inspired a connection to wellness in our local community and beyond.

Sierra Soul is a series of wellness events hosted by Granlibakken. The schedule and content changes each year, but one thing remains the same--Granlibakken retreats are the perfect place for people of all abilities to connect with wellness.

Chronic stress is commonly overlooked and the last thing considered when treating many health conditions. Ongoing stress can affect every system in the body and may even cause physical illness.  You will understand the various types of stress, learn how to recognize the impact it can have in our lives and our health.

You will gain insight on how stress affects our brain, heart, hormones, and our digestive tract.  You will be able to identify various environmental stressors that we are exposed to daily in our modern times. You will also learn how whole foods can strengthen your immune system to boost resilience, and what foods can aggravate our stress levels.

Other lifestyle therapies will be presented to support our ‘whole’ self in achieving a healthy and balanced life. We cannot always control the events in our lives and certainly cannot avoid stressful events, but we can learn how to manage our stress through knowledge and practice.

Come learn, relax, reflect on your own personal stress response, and be empowered and more prepared to take on life’s challenges.

Restorative yoga with Deborah Lapkin

Restorative yoga is an important aspect of practice for all practitioners. The yogic concept of conservation of energy demands that we listen to the internal rhythms of the body and respect the need for rest. Just as we lie down to rest the body when we sleep each night, we must recognize the energetic cycles of the body and give the body a chance to regenerate. Restorative yoga is just what everyone needs.

Plus lecture with Mirian Campos Root

Location: Mountain Ballroom

Your daily lifestyle and stress response are closely connected. We are faced with numerous variables that we commonly stack upon ourselves from the moment we wake up to the time we go to sleep.

Technology, finances, family, work, health, and the future remains constantly on our minds.  We will recap on the various sources of stress, and how they impact our cognitive function, physical performance, and overall well-being.   Additionally, you will learn more natural mind body and spirit techniques to help you relax and stay focused.  You will leave this weekend with valuable takeaways and action items to help you be in more control of your stress response mentally, emotionally, and physically.

Then you can begin to embrace your positive power of stress and turn it into your ally! Gradual steps will help you become more successful in achieving long lasting lifestyle change.  If you find yourself in a flight or fight situation, take a deep breath, remember what you have learned this weekend, and take that first step!

NOW IT’S TIME TO APPLY WHAT YOU’VE LEARNED!

Meet The Instructors

Caitlin Dekeeersgieter

Caitlin Dekeersgieter

Caitlin completed her 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training with Truckee Yoga Collective Spring of 2019. Depending on the day and energy level, Caitlin truly enjoys and practices all types of yoga, from heated Vinyassa to restorative Yin - and you will most likely see a mix of these in her classes. Methodically planning classes that will build heat and strength then eventually cooling down while holding postures that will safely stretch your muscles. While guiding her students to stay with the sequence, Caitlin will also offer them the time and space to move with their own breath, making the practice a bit more personalized knowing that we all move and breathe differently. Although Caitlin will teach different styles and levels of yoga, there will always be an emphasis on linking breath with movement and proper alignment – aiding and teaching her students in how to make yoga a sustainable, life long practice.

deborah lapkinDeborah Lapkin

Iyengar yoga has taught me to look beyond the outer physical layers and explore the inner layers of the mind, energy, and spirit. Iyengar yoga develops strength, stamina, concentration, coordination, flexibility, and more. Using physical alignment as a starting point, Iyengar yoga encourages the spread of intelligence throughout the body, the growth of self-awareness, and an experience of theasanas (poses) as a form of meditation in action.

Deborah Lapkin loves teaching Iyengar yoga and passing on the joy, happiness and balance. it’s brought into my life.

Hannah Blake

TheKaiaMethod.com

Hannah Blake traveled the globe dancing professionally, training with masters from around the world, such as The Bolshoi and Kirov Academies, Alvin Ailey and Complexions Contemporary.

At age 16, her relationship to dance wildly changed. Sponsored by her mentor Debbie Allen and the Obama Administration, 10 American dancers and Hannah traveled to the Middle East on a mission to bridge gaps between American and Omani culture through dance. It was here that she first realized and embodied the transformative, ego-dissolving, honest catalyzation that dance could be.

Instead of going to a conservatory, she chose to go deeper into dance as a form of cultural bridging and healing. She went on to study World Arts and Cultures at UCLA, where she explored Art Therapy, Dance as Cultural Bridging, and Psycho-Biology. She graduated in 3 years, Summa Cum Laude, after exploring the body as the subconscious mind, developing a deep understanding of movement as therapy, and investigating the psycho-somatic connection.

A couple years after graduating, she landed in the hospital with severe inflammation in her small intestine. The doctors diagnosed her with Crohn’s Disease. As a dancer, she always thought she knew her body, but this was a huge wakeup call signalling that she hadn’t really been listening. Now, she was ready to.

Instead of pursuing the traditional medical route, Hannah took this as an opportunity to explore her own body as her subconscious mind - harnessing the pain as a roadmap for deeper emotional understanding. She soon discovered that the heart and small intestine meridians are paired meridian systems. When her heart wasn’t emotionally in balance, her small intestine physiologically suffered. By honoring this, she began to dance within the flow of these meridians, vastly decreasing pain and inflammation. Not only did her quality of life physiologically shift, but she also saw vast improvement in her state of awareness and depth of inner peace.

This personal exploration birthed The Kaia Method. Since its birthing, Kaia has grown into a fully comprehensive methodology, for both deep healing, and as a daily mindfulness practice. The method is rapidly expanding across the states and the world.
