Sierra Soul was first created in 2016, but Granlibakken has been hosting wellness events since 2011. When Granlibakken took over Women's Wellness Weekend in 2011, we didn't realize how far this journey would take us. A few years later, we have hosted many incredible, meaningful events, met some amazing people, and inspired a connection to wellness in our local community and beyond.

Sierra Soul is a series of wellness events hosted by Granlibakken. The schedule and content changes each year, but one thing remains the same--Granlibakken retreats are the perfect place for people of all abilities to connect with wellness.

Sound Healing

When we support a person with a sound healing session, we work with intention and the natural frequencies of the body to encourage it to be in a harmonic state, or homeostasis. When we work with sound healing, we are able to speak to the body in its own language. We are able to connect with its natural rhythm and create a space for deep rest in the mind by working in a meditative state, which allows the whole body to rest and heal on a cellular level. Sound Healing meditations support us by creating a space of rest so that we are able to reset our system.

Kundalini Yoga a Pathway to the Heart

This ancient yogic practice is about opening the various energy pathways of the body, releasing tension, and stress that have created blocks, and moving in a dynamic way that facilitates freedom in the body-mind. We will use the power and energy in the breath, Yogic movement, and mantra to deepen our awareness and get to the heart of the matter, shedding and removing any blocks around the heart center that are not allowing you to be in a place of loving awareness. Aroma Yoga

Yoga and essential oils are two strategies that can help create personal balance and alignment. Yoga can move stagnant energy, open awareness, calm the mind, relax the body and restore equilibrium in a practice space that is entirely about you and your individual needs. Essential oils provide the body and mind with just what is needed for physiological balance and healing. Aroma Yoga is a 90 minute vinyasa flow sequence which builds in intensity and broken up with stillness in yin poses experiencing essential oils specific to our theme and intention for class. After a peak in strength building this class transitions to a slower pace and ends with a meditation to focus and still the mind. All levels are welcome.

The Awakened Heart & MindMindfulness Meditation Basics

Mindfulness is fast becoming a household word.  And for good reason.  These age-old practices have evolved to our contemporary culture and offer us simple, practical tools to;  increase calm and focus, decrease stress and reactivity, cultivate resilience and emotional intelligence, and to empower us to be present for the FULL SPECTRUM of our lives (including, and especially the really hard stuff) with more kindness, compassion and meaning. This workshop in Mindfulness Meditation will touch briefly on the Neuroscience and abundance of evidence-based studies that illustrate the efficacy of mindfulness.  Then, through introductory practices, we will learn to relax into our Bodies, steady our Minds, and touch into the deep intention of our Heart, what really matters, which can then guide us into living a rich and meaningful life of Purpose.  You will leave with simple tools to weave into your own life, including 2 complimentary recorded meditations to begin practicing right away!

Kristi Plume

Kristi focuses her life and her work on the connections between humans and nature. She’s a sustainability planner and educator – and a certified nature and forest therapy guide. Kristi helps people of all ages connect to nature and work toward a lasting sense of wellbeing. Her environmental knowledge, respect for the outdoors, and educational expertise are a powerful combination. She uses these tools to guide people through restorative experiences in nature.

In addition to being a certified nature and forest therapy guide, Kristi is a registered yoga teacher. She’s also certified in CPR and wilderness first aid. Kristi holds a BA in psychology and an MBA in sustainability and has served as a corporate trainer, a university lecturer, a sustainable business mentor, and even a coach for youth sports. She knows how to connect with people of all stripes.

In her free time, you’ll often find Kristi outdoors – of course. She enjoys scuba diving, surfing, and traveling the world. She and her husband are also dedicated to fostering and rehabilitating abandoned dogs.

Hannah Blake

Hannah Blake traveled the globe dancing professionally, training with masters from around the world, such as The Bolshoi and Kirov Academies, Alvin Ailey and Complexions Contemporary.
At age 16, her relationship to dance wildly changed. Sponsored by her mentor Debbie Allen and the Obama Administration, 10 American dancers and Hannah traveled to the Middle East on a mission to bridge gaps between American and Omani culture through dance. It was here that she first realized and embodied the transformative, ego-dissolving, honest catalyzation that dance could be.

Instead of going to a conservatory, she chose to go deeper into dance as a form of cultural bridging and healing. She went on to study World Arts and Cultures at UCLA, where she explored Art Therapy, Dance as Cultural Bridging, and Psycho-Biology. She graduated in 3 years, Summa Cum Laude, after exploring the body as the subconscious mind, developing a deep understanding of movement as therapy, and investigating the psycho-somatic connection.

A couple years after graduating, she landed in the hospital with severe inflammation in her small intestine. The doctors diagnosed her with Crohn’s Disease. As a dancer, she always thought she knew her body, but this was a huge wakeup call signaling that she hadn’t really been listening. Now, she was ready to.

Instead of pursuing the traditional medical route, Hannah took this as an opportunity to explore her own body as her subconscious mind - harnessing the pain as a roadmap for deeper emotional understanding. She soon discovered that the heart and small intestine meridians are paired meridian systems. When her heart wasn’t emotionally in balance, her small intestine physiologically suffered. By honoring this, she began to dance within the flow of these meridians, vastly decreasing pain and inflammation. Not only did her quality of life physiologically shift, but she also saw vast improvement in her state of awareness and depth of inner peace. This personal exploration birthed The Kaia Method. Since its birthing, Kaia has grown into a fully comprehensive methodology, for both deep healing, and as a daily mindfulness practice. The method is rapidly expanding across the states and the world.

Katie Peterson

Katie grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and moved to the city once she graduated from high school. After trying out college for a year and working as a waitress for many, she stumbled upon a bootcamp studio nearby her Chicago apartment. Her longtime fear of working out in gyms would soon subside. This new fitness studio brought such a welcoming and comforting vibe. She noticed that it was more than just working out, it was a community of people who were looking for a lifestyle change. That is when she realized this was something she wanted to be a part of. Changing people’s lives for the better and breaking them out of their comfort zones.

In 2012, Katie expanded her knowledge of fitness by receiving her ACE personal training certification and in 2014 she completed her 200 Hour Power Vinyasa Yoga certification. A few years later, within her first year in Tahoe City, Katie completed her Barre Above certification with the one and only Leslie Bender. Being a yoga lover and longtime bootcamp instructor, Barre became a third love. Along with fitness, she broadened her knowledge on nutrition and proceeded to receive her Precision Nutrition Certification. And in 2018, Katie founded Tahoe Fit and brought all her fitness background together for the Tahoe City community.

Katie found a true love for Tahoe and enjoys all it has to offer. Surrounding herself with athletes, she knows how beneficial her workouts are for people in her community, and knows what it means to be Tahoe Fit. Katie is always keeping her focus on clients form and posture, moving around the classroom strategically. Her classes are always filled with positive energy and uplifting music. Challenging but functional workouts in a fun environment is Katie’s goal as a fitness instructor. Come in for a workout and leave feeling happier, stronger, and more confident!

Amanda Hill

As a former NICU nurse I have a deep passion to integrate western and eastern medicine with a focus to bring it back to the individual! I found my tribe and home at Rishi Yoga in spring of 2013. My yoga journey brought me face to face with the raw and authentic version of myself I had been hiding for years. My experience at Rishi Yoga inspired me to start yoga teacher training, which I completed in spring 2015. I found my new path in healing through essential oils from doTERRA while battling celiac disease, which was not only taking away my Italian love of food but affecting my heart and fertility. Including essential oils as part of my practice quickly evolved into powerful workshops that help people relax and center with the power of AromaYoga. Lauri Glenn, CMT/ERYT-500/Reiki Master/Mindfulness Meditation & Yoga Coach/Trainer

Lauri has been an avid athlete and outdoor enthusiast her entire life.  This has led to amazing adventures but along with that came some injuries and derailments in her own personal health, body and mind.   That has been fuel to her fire, driving her passion to find optimal and sustainable health and happiness in her own life and to share what I learn with others.

Lauri’s journey brought me first to yoga/meditation in 1995, then massage therapy, more yoga/meditation, paramedicine, firefighting and serendipitously, back to massage and yoga/meditation again with a whole new perspective. Lauri has a varied and well-rounded view of health care, what works and what doesn’t, and how to implement an effective strategy for optimal wellness.  Lauri is blessed to call her passion, her career.  She looks forward to being a part of YOUR journey to your Healthiest, Happiest Self.

Marisa Espinoza

Marisa’s background is in Kundalini and Bhakti Yoga, Massage, Herbalism, and Energy Healing. She has been practicing Yoga since the age of 18 and has been teaching since 2016, and continues to learn, grow, and share these ancient practices as a way of life. She is dedicated to the healing arts, and she has taken an interest and focus in her own work with helping women with the healing of their physical womb space through presence centered touch and Mayan Abdominal Therapy. She also hosts Women’s Wisdom Workshops that use yoga, meditation, and sacred circle as a way do deepen their relationship with the second chakra.


Jessica Neideffer

Jessica Neideffer became aware that there was more to her than just a physical body at a very young age. She experienced many health issues during childhood and almost died when she was fifteen from complications of Crohn’s dis-ease. After many years of doctors treating the symptoms with western medicine, she knew there had to be another way of being healed and healthy. After a profound experience at the age of 31, she realized there was a different way and that she was meant to support herself and others in healing on a deeper level.

Since this moment in 2007, Jessica began studying and practicing energy work and sound healing. She became more conscious of what her body was asking for and began working with Naturopaths, Nutritionists, and other Mentors to assist her in the healing process. Through her own research and life experience, she found that a combination of diet, exercise, and emotional healing practices was the key.

Jessica supports her clients by sharing tools and exercises as part of the personal development and healing practices she has refined over the years. She works with Reiki, Sound Healing, NLP, and different guided meditation techniques. She understands that each person moves through life issues in different ways, so she works with multiple modalities to assist individuals in their process, at their own pace. She works with them to BE healthy and realize their goals and dreams.

Jessica is living her purpose and is dedicated to supporting ALL in remembering their innate ability to heal themselves and change their life from within, one thought at a time.

Dr. Tim Schroeder

Dr. Tim is an active person involved in a variety of professional and personal activities. He feels that living a balanced life enables you to reach your greatest potential in both professional and personal development. Dr. Schroeder has owned and operated Tahoe City Chiropractic for over 28 years. He continues to blend the latest developments in the science of chiropractic by participating with regularity in continuing education. He studies health and healing on nearly a daily basis. He is certified by Target Training International as a Professional Behavioral Analyst and he has extensive training in the analysis of Personal Interests, Attitudes and Values. He has been a featured speaker across North America on the subjects of chiropractic philosophy, life balance and the emotions of personal economics. In addition he maintains a passion as a fifth degree Black Belt and certified Master Instructor in the art of Tang Soo Do karate. He developed and served as Director of the non-profit, health and wellness group, World Ki Gong for 15 years. Dr. Schroeder resides in Tahoe City, California with his wife, Sha.

Jenna Minnes

The gifts of being human are expressed through Yoga. Given the opportunity to be still enough, our Yoga practice supports us through all experiences of life, and help us remember our own divinity.

Yoga for me shows itself everywhere. Through the quiet beauty of our external environment here in Lake Tahoe we can see that we are that beauty. It feels like a spiritual experience every time I breathe in the trees, water, the sky, snow and sun. These elements inspire me on a daily basis, and bring me to teaching as a way of self-learning.

The path has lead me to embrace the teachings of Astanga, Anusara, Vinyasa, Iyengar and Tantric Yoga. You will find my classes as an exploration of energies via the body, the breath and our being. Tantric Vinyasa is my primary expression of teaching, which honors all paths of yoga and lifestyle that support us in expressing our personal truth. The culmination of over 1,000 hours of training have inspired me to become ERYT-200 and I am thrilled to be holding teacher trainings at my local studio, The Yoga Room.

Deborah Lapkin

Deborah has been teaching Iyengar yoga for seventeen years and is certified as an Iyengar teacher. She teaches Iyengar Yoga because it focuses on the precise alignment of the body and has studied in India and trained with the master, BKS Iyengar and Gita Iyengar (his daughter). Deborah continues to further her studies by attending intensive workshops each year all around the country.

Iyengar yoga has taught her to look beyond the outer physical layers and explore the inner layers of the mind, energy, and spirit. It helps develops strength, stamina, concentration, coordination, flexibility, and more. Using physical alignment as a starting point, Iyengar yoga encourages the spread of intelligence throughout the body, the growth of self-awareness, and an experience of the asanas (poses) as a form of meditation in action.

She loves teaching Iyengar yoga and passing on the joy, happiness, and balance that it’s brought into her life.


Alicia Smith

Originally from New Hampshire, Alicia recently returned to Lake Tahoe after living in New York City for two years. While living in NYC, Alicia began to deepen her yoga practice to manage the stress that came with city life. Over time, Alicia's passion for and relationship with yoga grew immensely, leading her to take her practice to the next level, by becoming a 200-hr Yoga Alliance certified teacher through Loom Yoga Center in Brooklyn, NY. After completing her training, her perspective had shifted and change was calling, leading her back to Lake Tahoe, where she had lived prior, with new tools and life experience.

Alicia’s classes are intelligently and creatively sequenced, sprinkled with spirituality and philosophy, and set to a curated playlist to invoke depth and pure bliss. As a yoga teacher, Alicia strives to bring you to a loving state of awareness through asana, pranayama, and meditation in order to uncover your own unique nature and to feel at home in your body, at ease in your mind, and balanced in your everyday life.
